Liverpool news: ‘It has the capacity to be a very special farewell season for Klopp’

Posted on 05/08/2024 by Tami
Liverpool’s tilt at a historic quadruple is over after they suffered the pain of defeat in the closing seconds of extra time in a spectacular FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to capitalize on twice holding the lead, the second time when Harvey Elliott put them 3-2 ahead in extra time. Amad Diallo’s goal gave United a 4-3 win and Liverpool were left to reflect on a missed opportunity, particularly in the second half when their usual urgency and clinical edge went missing as they led 2-1 and were dominating the game. This…

8-hour intermittent fasting tied to 90% higher risk of cardiovascular death, early data hints

Posted on 04/08/2024 by Tami
Intermittent fasting — a dieting strategy that limits when someone can eat each day — has been linked to a 91% higher risk of heart-related death in a large study. This risk was tied to eating in an eight-hour or shorter window in the 24-hour day, compared with a more typical 12- to 16-hour window. The new, preliminary research was presented March 18 at the American Heart Association (AHA) EPI Lifestyle Scientific Sessions 2024. It looked at deaths from cardiovascular diseases in more than 20,000 US adults, who were followed for an average of eight years. Experts told Live Science…

3 ways to tell evidence-based health information from pseudoscience

Posted on 02/08/2024 by Tami
Health information is increasingly being shared online, and often the borders between legitimate health expertise and pseudoscience aren’t clear. (Shutterstock) “I drink borax!” proclaims the smiling TikToker. Holding up a box of the laundry additive, she rhymes off a list of its supposed health benefits: “Balances testosterone and estrogen. It’s an anti-inflammatory powerhouse…. It’s amazing for arthritis, osteoporosis…. And obviously it’s great for your gut health.” Videos like these prompted health authorities to warn the public about the dangers of ingesting this toxic detergent — and away from such viral messaging that promotes unsubstantiated and medically dangerous health claims. It’s 1993 in Gurnee, Ill., I’ve just turned 5 and I’m fidgeting in class waiting to be cast in the kindergarten class play “The Ugly Duckling.” Only a select few from each class have been chosen to participate. My teacher is reading out students who have been cast in the play along with their characters. “Jessica Felker,” she calls out, “You have been cast as the Ugly Duckling.” The entire class roared with laughter, all except me. A smile crept across my face, I didn’t care if this meant I was ugly, I was cast as the star of the…

Posted on 30/07/2024 by Tami
The group of 21 MPs and peers from four parties have written to the Health Secretary and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), as well as the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to request the data.
